This is nuts to play even as expereinces bassists. Always been my favorite bassline but just how many small yet different grooves paul is throwing in there is insane. The high notes are brilliant but those grooves go in just as a beautifully cordinated mess

That looks like a short-scale bass. What did you use to record? I have a hard time finding quality short-scales that aren't exorbitantly expensive and would love some direction. I'm a short dude who started on guitar, so I appreciate a quality short scale. I'm still rocking an entry level Ibanez short scale that cost me 250 bucks

There's no doubt it was George on his Bass VI. On the isolated track you can perfectly hear the texture of the fender and its harmonics. It is a perfectly documented fact. What always surprises me is that when it is said "Paul played lead guitar on that song..." all the folks😊 takes it for granted, but when it's George who makes a masterpiece on bass, there are many who doubt it. And it's weird because you CAN PERCEIVE the line coming from a lead guitarist playing bass (like on "Old Brown Shoe").

This is hard. It is not as easy as it looks. There are some very unusual passages that kinda deviate from the scales, sometimes he does semitone slide, sometimes he does tone hammers. The complexity is hidden in the details. Paul McCartney is one of the best bass players of our time, very underestimated.

Well played. For me, the best ever bass player. Not all flash and little substance, but technical, innovative and of course highly melodic. The bass in Something is a song in itself.

Crazy how every non Paul bass song turns into ww3 over if it's actually played by John or George hahaha I could see George playing this one though. Or any song that could nearly pass as Paul's playing. He is decent at mimicking Paul very well. Lennons bass playing doesn't try to sound like Paul's to me, anyway. It's usually a lot more plunky and on the low end. Hey Jude, Long and Winding Road, etc.

Another Lefty musician here! Left-handed is the REAL right-handed! Before I comment on the issues with this guide, I'd like to point out that it has many great aspects. The timing is excellent, and all the Staccato notes are placed correctly. However, it has many flaws. If anyone is interested in learning this bass line EXACTLY as it was played in the original studio recording, check out my "Lefty" guide for "Money" on my RUclips page. Specifically, if you listen to the main (7-8 timing) riff of this bass line, played as it is here, using open notes, it sounds very robotic, bland, and colorless. The actual bass line is played by utilizing all fretted notes. More importantly, the fretted A and D notes (that are played on open strings in this guide, and countless other guides) incorporate very slight bends, which go a long way toward adding, flavor, dynamics and color to the riff. Compare this video to my own guide, and you will easily see my point. Furthermore, while the notes are essentially correct, the pattern played during the 7-8 timing section (in the key of E) beginning at 2:21 is incorrect. It should be played identically to the main section (the riff that's played in the key of B), spanning four frets when fretting from B to G and E to D while also applying the same small bends on the G and D notes. This gives the overall sound the correct, thicker, deeper tones that exist in the original studio recording. Secondly, there is NO open-A to B hammer-on anywhere in this bass line. The actual progression in the 4-4-timing section (where the lead is playing) is a slide from B-flat to B. This fact is also illustrated in my video, so please feel free to compare, and to comment if you wish. I also noticed that this guide randomly incorporates a hammer-on from open A to D in this same section (see the section at 3:00 ), which actually does not exist anywhere in the original studio recording of this song. Additionally, please take note that when the entire 4-4-timed pattern moves up to the key of E, this video guide correctly plays the 1/2-step slide from E-flat to E, rather than D to E, which would also be incorrect. The two patterns are identical, which proves the half-step reality of both riff patterns. Lastly, at 4:20 (ironically enough) there is a bass fill that is not included in this guide or ANY guide that I have ever encountered anywhere on RUclips. It is played right as the second main lead bursts onto the scene. Take a look at my guide to see how this section is TRULY supposed to be played. Overall, this is a good video guide, and I'd like to reiterate that I am not trashing or flaming its author in any way. Given that almost every video guide that depicts the bass line for Money offers similar mistakes and inaccuracies, it stands to reason that these inaccuracies, bad habits and incorrect patterns likely perpetuate one another. This is the main reason that I created and posted my own video, so that those who wish to learn and play the song as it was actually played on the original studio recording can have an accurate source to study and learn from, as a means of learning and playing it correctly.
